5 Things To Know Today: Oct. 14

Art at Mohr Library; all things homecoming; and today in history: the birth of Winnie-the-Pooh.

Get Artsy: Today at Mohr Library, Ms. Melyssa (a JHS alum and local artist of note) starts the fall session of Art Smart for kids in grades 3 to 6 today at 4 p.m. Participants study the styles of great masters and create masterpieces of their own. Also, don't forget tomorrow's scheduled Fall Festival at Mohr Library, beginning at 2 p.m.

Homecoming, Pt. 1: It's Homecoming Weekend at Johnston High School, and with so much on the agenda, we're splitting up the entries. First up is a full slate of sports tonight at the high school:

Homecoming, Pt. 2: It just wouldn't be a JHS Homecoming without the annual parade, featuring floats created by each of the classes. Check out this year's expressions of school spirit (and friendly competition) starting at about 10 a.m. tomorrow morning.

Homecoming, Pt. 3: Without a doubt, the big event on Homecoming Weekend is the football game featuring the Panthers hosting a team from out of town who will no doubt regret making the drive (am I right, Panther fans?) — and this year, the chosen victims, I mean visitors, are the Chariho Regional High School Chargers. Get out and support our local boys starting at 1:30 p.m. tomorrow.

Pooh's Debut: On this date in 1926, A.A. Milne's book, Winnie-the-Pooh was first released.
