Rhode Island Resource Recovery Corporation to Host Eco-Depot Collection in Johnston on Saturday, Aug 17

JOHNSTON, R.I. (August 12, 2013) – In an effort to promote a safer home and a cleaner state, Rhode Island Resource Recovery Corporation (RIRRC) will be hosting a free Eco-Depot collection at the state’s Central Landfill on Saturday, August 17 from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at 65 Shun Pike, Johnston. Eco-Depot is a service for Rhode Island residents only. To help reduce time spent in line, appointments should be made in advance.

Eco-Depot is a free service provided by RIRRC that allows for the proper handling, packaging, storing, transportation and disposal of household hazardous wastes. In 2012 alone, RIRRC disposed of approximately 932,914 pounds of hazardous waste and kept 2,226 pounds of mercury out of the state’s soil and ground water, all at no cost to Rhode Island residents.

“Summer is a great time for residents to dispose of household hazardous materials, freeing up valuable space around the home,” said Joe Rotella, Special Waste Manager for RIRRC. “Getting rid of these materials is a great way to free up space around the house and provide a safe environment for you and your family. Simply make an appointment and our trained staff will be ready for your drop-off upon arrival.”
