Last week at the Central Landfill, officials from presented checks to every city and town in the state as part of the company's profit-sharing program.

Each community received a share of about $1.9 million in profits from the sale of recyclables — in Johnston's case, about $43,000.

According to RIRRC, the money can only be spent on updating the recycling programs in each city and town.
