By a 5-0 vote, the council approved the $89.56 million spending plan, which increases the town's tax rate by 94 cents per $1,000 valuation on residential properties, about a 3 percent hike.

During the session, Mayor Joseph M. Polisena and school Supt. Dr. Bernard DiLullo presented their respective budgets; business owner George Calcagni, of Calson Construction, addressed the council about stipends paid to public board members — leading to a confrontation with Polisena — and former Councilman Joseph Wells asked the council for specific numbers on the expected tax hike for fiscal 2012.
