Video: Zone Change Hearing For Briarcliffe

The Johnston Town Council voted 4-0 on Sept. 12 to allow a zoning change which would allow Briarcliffe Manor to expand.

The accompanying video shows scenes from the Johnston Town Council meeting of Sept. 12, where councilors voted 4-0 for a zoning change which will pave the way for to construct an assisted living facility across from its current campus.

Several residents spoke in opposition to the proposed building, which will have two stories, 75 rooms, and up to 100 beds. It will also create between 30 and 50 new jobs, according to Briarcliffe attorney William Landry.

Landry also noted that the project is still in the "conceptual stage," and will require additional approvals from the town planning board before construction can begin.
