Two Johnston Bars Up for Review

The business licenses of the Drunken Clam and Club Bebeto, both located on Greenville Avenue, are scheduled for review by the Johnston Town Council tonight.


The Johnston Town Council is scheduled to hold a show cause hearing tonight on Club Bebeto, 31 Greenville Ave., and conduct a six-month review of the business licenses held by , 8 Greenville Ave.

allege that on Mar. 21, a bartender served beer to her 20-year-old brother at Club Bebeto, and that another 20-year-old admitted to police that he had been served alcohol.

Zully Montufar, 21, appeared at an arraignment on a misdemeanor charge of serving alcohol to a minor in Third District Court, Warwick, on Apr. 4 and pleaded not guilty, according to online court records. She is scheduled for a pre-trial hearing on Apr. 27.

Her brother, Ruben Montufar, and the second 20-year-old, Herland Campos, also appeared in court on Apr. 4. Follow-up hearings are scheduled for Apr. 25.

Under the Johnston Town Charter, the council may hold a show cause hearing to determine whether a business has violated local ordinances and could have its licenses revoked.

Following their decision in October, 2011, to grant Pal-Jar Inc., the owners of The Drunken Clam, a six-month renewal of their business licenses, councilors are scheduled to review the certifications tonight.
