Truck With Turbine Parts To Roll Through Town

A series of oversized loads is scheduled to drive through Johnston this week on its way to Interstate 295.

A series of oversized loads carrying wind turbine parts to Boston, MA, are expected to use Johnston roads this week.

[Note: These are not parts for the . The applications for two turbines in Johnston have not yet been heard, and there is no schedule for consideration of the proposals.]

Starting around 9 a.m., a convoy heading towards Boston was scheduled to depart Terminal Road in Providence and head towards Interstate 295 using streets in Johnston and Cranston.

Several more trips will be required to move all of the equipment needed, and are scheduled for tonight through Friday night starting at 8 p.m.

The Rhode Island Department of Transportation published the following route for the truck:

  • The truck will start on Terminal Rd. in Providence and turn left on Rte. 1A, then turn right onto Rte. 12 (Park Avenue) and proceed to Gansett Avenue. From Gansett Avenue, the truck will turn left onto Cranston St. and proceed to Dyer Avenue, then right onto Rte. 12 and continue to Rte. 5 (Atwood Avenue).
  • After a drive on Atwood, the truck will turn left onto Rte. 6A (Hartford Avenue) and continue to I-295 NB, where it will proceed to Exit 8 (Route 7 N) and take Douglas Pike north to Rte. 116, left onto Rte. 122, and then back to I-295 NB for the rest of its journey to the Massachusetts border.

The total trip is expected to take three to four hours, potentially causing minor traffic delays.
