Town Council To Discuss Coyotes, School Committee Vacancy

The Portsmouth Town Council will meet tonight at 7 p.m. at Town Hall.

The Portsmouth Town Council will take up a number of issues tonight, including hearing updates on a potential "coyote issue" in town.

According to the meeting agenda, the council will discuss "a Potential Coyote-Related Ordinance and Update on Coyote-Related Issues."

The council will also hear from three applicants who are interested in serving on the Portsmouth School Committee.

A seat on the school committee became vacant this past November after member Jonathan Harris resigned one day after the General Election. The town council is responsible for appointing a member to the committee.

The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. at Town Hall. To see the full agenda, click here

I am concern about the coyote issue. Certainly as stated above , coyotes are part of the ecosystem as well lions , tigers and bears! I I believe the majority of Portsmouth residents do not want coyotes running in their backyards . Most of our yards are not fenced keeping Portsmouth a traditional NE town. Bottom line -coyotes make it unsafe to have our dogs as well young children outside even with close supervision

coyotes are not indiginous to aquidneck island, they came here from somewhere else. they are wild animals that don"t belong roaming peoples backyards. we have ordinances against roaming dogs! they can easily drag a dog off a back porch, do we have to wait until someones small child is dragged off !!

The coyotes have spred all the way to Canada. The reason they are here is because we have killed off all the wolves who kept the coyotes in check. They are here now and you better get used to them they are here to stay. If you keep killing them they will keep reproducing. Coyotes are not draggging off our children and if they do it's the fault of parents not supervising their children.

Go to portsmouthri.com.....click on the link to watch the 1-28-13 TC meeting..... watch the 30 mins. spent on the waste water issue...Does Liz Pedro always think that there is some kind of conspiracy going on or what?......she is an awful councilperson and she cannot ever clearly communicate.....

other than that, without Joe Robicheau and Judy, it seems like the meetings run very smoothly......you don't have to agree with all the decisions, but you must agree that the decorum is much better without a lot of sniping, fighting and disrespect that was so prevalent the last two years.
