5 Things: 9-11 Anniversary

Two races will be decided by today's primary vote, which makes our 5 Things to Know for Sept. 11, 2012.

 

1. Sept. 11 Anniversary: Today marks the 11th anniversary since the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. The town of Johnston does not have formal ceremonies planned. A moment of silence will be recognized at 8:46 am in New York City, the time that the first airplane struck the World Trade Center. NBC4 in New York has the schedule of events for the ceremonies planned at Ground Zero.

2. Primary Day: Beginning at 7 am, polls will be open in Johnston for . Two races — town council Ward 1 and RI Senate Dist. 25 — will be decided, while the race for U.S. House Dist. 2 [currently held by Rep. James Langevin] has primaries for both parties to determine who advanced to the Nov. 11 election. are closed for today's vote.

3. Bring Your ID: Voters are reminded to bring valid photo ID to their polling places today under the state's new Voter ID law. More info at the RI Secretary of State Voter ID web page.

4. Follow this 'Act': Marian J. Mohr Library hosts its tonight starting at 6 pm. Local thespians perform a scene, then discuss. Free.
