Senior Center Offers Tax Assistance

AARP representatives are available on Wednesdays to help with personal taxes, and the center also assists seniors with filing for property tax relief.

There are just under two months left to this year's tax season, and senior citizens in Johnston can find help at the on Wednesdays and Fridays.

Senior Center Director Anthony Zompa, during a recent interview, explained that representatives of AARP are on site at the facility every Wednesday to provide help with federal and state tax filings.

Zompa said the program is very popular — and he encouraged interested seniors to set an appointment soon.

"We're already booked through March," Zompa said.

Seniors who own their homes are also eligible for a state tax rebate of $300 by completing a simple form — and there, again, the senior center is ready to help.

Zompa explained that Fridays are reserved for helping homeowners complete the rebate form and file it with the state.

The federal tax deadline this year is April 18.
