Reminder: No EPA Meeting At Barnes Tonight

Mayor Joseph Polisena rejected a plan by the EPA to bury toxic soil on town property, and cancelled the meeting scheduled for 7 p.m.

With Mayor Joseph Polisena's recent decision to reject a plan by the federal Environmental Protection Agency to bury toxic soil on town property, a meeting scheduled for 7 p.m. tonight at was also cancelled.

The meeting was termed a "visioning" session, where local officials — but no EPA representatives — were to discuss possible future use for a part of the public works department property where the toxic soil would have been buried.

But on Dec. 29, Polisena sent a letter to the EPA, telling officials there that the town was no longer interested in hosting a so-called "upland confined disposal facility" at the DPW property on Irons Avenue.
