RIRRC Director Says He's Staying [Poll]

Rhode Island Resource Recovery Corporation Executive Director Michael OConnell said he has no plans to resign.

Rhode Island Resource Recovery Corporation Executive Director Michael OConnell said he will not resign from his post, the Providence Journal reported yesterday.

At last Friday's meeting of a special House Commission on the Central Landfill, state Rep. Stephen R. Ucci (D-Johnston, Cranston) in the midst of ongoing odor problems.

"Im not resigning — simple as that," OConnell said during a phone interview with JohnstonPatch this morning, adding that "significant, steady improvement is on the way as we speak."

Johnston Mayor Joseph Polisena and Broadrock Renewables, the company that runs a gas capturing and burning facility at the Landfill, over the smell problems that have lingered since at least mid-September.

OConnell also estimated that "we think within the next week or 10 days, this thing will be knocked out."
