Polisena to Address Prov. Rescue Run Issue

The Johnston mayor is scheduled to host his counterparts from East Providence and North Providence at a noontime press conference today.

 

Johnston Mayor Joseph Polisena is scheduled to hold a press conference at noon today to address the wide disparity between the rescue runs that the town sent into Providence over the past year and the number that Providence provided to Johnston.

According to Polisena, the responded to nearly 500 calls in Providence — yet crews from the capitol city assisted Johnston just 23 times.

"Johnston taxpayers can no longer afford to subsidize the city of Providence," Polisena said on May 30. At the time, Polisena and the Mayors of East Providence and North Providence announced that from Providence, and given Mayor Angel Taveras a 30-day deadline to respond.

Polisena also suggested at the time that Providence could ease the burden on Johnston rescue crews by adding more emergency vehicles.

Today's press conference is to be held at the , 1600 Atwood Ave., Polisena said in a statement.
