Glenn Carroll Honored

Road Repairs Planned

There will soon be some road repairs in Johnston, courtesy of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The purpose of the repairs is to fix damage to roads caused by the floods in the spring of 2010.

A total of 35 roads are scheduled to be repaired, but only one will be completely resurfaced. Many will just have 5-foot-by-5-foot sections replaced. Some on the Council disagreed with FEMA's choice of roads.

"I'm surprised my district isn't getting touched," said Councilman David Santilli of District 3. "That's odd."

Councilman Ernest Pitochelli (I-Dist. 2) also reiterated that the repairs won't cost the town any money.

"This is FEMA money. It's separate from the town," said Pitochelli.

More Car Licenses

The Council voted 4-0 on the first reading of an ordinance which would double the number of new car licenses in the town to 10.

Currently, town Ordinance 129-2 restricts the number of car sales licenses to 62 for used car dealers; five for new cars; and five for rental agencies.

A public hearing and second reading of the change to the ordinance is scheduled for the council's next meeting on Sept. 12.
