News Brief: Town Council Revokes Sebastian's Licenses

The Johnston Town Council's votes effectively shut down the event hall to future business.

In three separate votes, the Johnston Town Council on April 11 revoked business, entertainment, and liquor licenses from , of 928 Plainfield St., following a police investigation that found the hall in businesses where alcoholic drinks are served.

During the meeting, councilors voted to hold the three "show cause" hearings at the end of the session after handling a series of other matters, including operating licenses for 12 other businesses.

When they held the hearings on Sebastian's — one for each type of license — councilors voted 4-0 each time to revoke its business operating, Class BV liquor, and entertainment licenses, with Councilor David Santilli (D-Dist. 3) recusing himself because he is a cousin of Steven Santilli, the owner of Sebastian's.

The vote to strip the licenses effectively puts the event hall out of business, as it no longer has the ability to open its doors, serve liquor, and host parties.

On April 2, Johnston and State Police officers  that reportedly included nudity and sex acts. Police charged Steven Santilli, of 5 Brown Ave., with two counts of and a state felony count of promoting an obscene show. Santilli is  on the felony charge on June 2.
