News Brief: Recycling Company To Move To Johnston, Mayor Says

Sims Recycling Solutions is expected to invest up to $50 million in two collection facilities near the Central Landfill.

Mayor Joseph Polisena announced at on Sept. 26 that he had concluded "preliminary meetings" with representatives of Sims Recycling Solutions of Australia to build two facilities in Johnston.

The first would be a $30 million metals shredding operation, while the second would be a facility to collect so-called "white products," like refrigerators and stoves.

Polisena said the two new developments would create some 120 jobs.
