New Fire Chief Appointment Scheduled For March 16

Mayor Joseph M. Polisena is scheduled to make the announcement at a ceremony at the Johnston Senior Center.

A week ago, Chief of Staff Doug Jeffrey said he expected the selection of the town's next fire chief to be completed within two weeks, though he warned at the time that "a lot of things have to fall into place."

With a press release sent by Mayor Joseph M. Polisena this afternoon stating that he plans to hold a press conference on March 16 to appoint the new fire chief, it seems as though things did, indeed, fall into place.

According to a statement released Tuesday afternoon, Polisena is scheduled to make a formal announcement tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. at the Johnston Senior Center.

Following Andrew J. Baynes's resignation in January, Polisena appointed himself acting fire chief until a replacement could be found. Jeffrey served on the selection committee with Police Chief Richard S. Tamburini, Central Coventry Fire District Chief Bob Seltzer, Lime Rock (Lincoln) Fire Department Chief Frank M. Sylvester, and retired Providence Asst. Fire Chief William Giannini.
