Mayor Files Landfill Lawsuit

The town is alleging a breach of contract and creation of a public nuisance in the lawsuit filed today in Providence Superior Court.

Less than a week after he the two companies that operate the Central Landfill and capture gases from the piles of trash to make electricity, Mayor Joseph Polisena went to Providence Superior Court this afternoon to formally file the town's lawsuit.

Accompanied by Town Councilman Ernest Pitochelli and Town Solicitor William Conley, Polisena entered the court, and, in a process that took about a minute and a half, filed the lawsuit in the clerk's office.

The town's complaint alleges a breach of contract by and Broadrock Renewables, as well as creation of a public nuisance by the release of "noxious odors" in Johnston and surrounding communities.
