Johnston School Budget Proposal For 2011-12

The Johnston School Department released Supt. Dr. Bernard DiLullo's budget proposal for the fiscal year beginning July 1.

The attached document is the draft budget for the , proposed by Supt. Dr. Bernard DiLullo at a workshop on March 9, 2011.

Under the plan, the school budget would increase from $47,624,581 in the current year to $49,096,992 — an increase of about $1.5 million. To fund the proposed budget, the town's contribution would increase by just over $1 million, from $37.1 million this year to $38.1 million in fiscal year 2011-12.

A drop of about $2 million in federal stimulus funding is reflected in the revenue calculations.

Governor Lincoln Chafee has proposed a state budget that would provide about $9.6 million in school aid to Johnston, about $400,000 more than the draft budget anticipates.

Also, according to Dr. DiLullo, the current teachers' contract is due to expire this year, and potential costs in the next fiscal year have not yet been determined.

The largest spending increase is in benefits to staff, an estimated $940,ooo hike. Out-of-district tuition is estimated to increase by about $231,000 in the next fiscal year, according to the draft budget.
