Johnston Events for May 26 and 27: Memorial Day Observances

There are two Memorial Day ceremonies scheduled for this weekend in Johnston, and a parade in nearby North Providence.

May 28 is Memorial Day — and in Johnston, there are two observances scheduled over the weekend. North Providence is also scheduled to host a Memorial Day parade on Monday.

Saturday, May 26:

hosts a ceremony remembering local veterans and during World War II, Korea, and Vietnam.

Ceremonies begin at 9:30 am at the park's war memorial. Performance of the National Anthem, speeches, and the ringing of a bell for fallen Johnston soldiers are among the scheduled events.

Organized in cooperation with Mayor Joseph Polisena, the Johnston Community Center Association, the Kelley-Gazzero Post, , the and the RI National Guard.

Sunday, May 27:

Beginning at 11 am, the is scheduled to hold its on Putnam Pike, next to the Graniteville Fire Station.

All are invited to remember those who defend our nation.

Monday, May 28:

The , located in Johnston, is scheduled to participate in the .

Members are welcome to join the procession by gathering at the high school by noon.

The parade is scheduled to step off at 1 pm and proceed to Gov. John A. Notte Park for more Memorial Day festivities.
