Flu Now Widespread in Rhode Island

Healthcare workers are now required to wear masks when dealing directly with patients.

Health officials are now deeming that the flu is widespread in Rhode Island following a news conference Wednesday. Though no one has died from the flu this season, 51 people have been hospitalized.

With the announcement, healthcare workers in the state who have not been vaccinated against the flu are now required to wear surgical masks when in direct contact with patients, including treatment and serving meals.

Massachusetts declared flu widespread late last month.
