DOT: Delays Expected Sunday On Rte. 295 During Work For New Traffic Pattern

Workers to set up new traffic pattern between exits 9 and 10.

OK, Smithfield drivers — plan your Sunday travels carefully, and be prepared for some changes if you're headed north on Rte. 295.

As part of the reconstruction of the Blackstone Viaduct between Exit 9 (Route 146) and Exit 10 (Route 122/Mendon Road) on I-295 in Cumberland/Lincoln, the Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) has announced overnight work to set up a new traffic pattern will start Sunday, Nov, 18 at about 9 p.m.

According to the DOT, Motorists should expect delays. The new traffic pattern should be in effect by the morning commute on Monday, Nov. 19.

With the new traffic pattern, the left high speed lane will be closed, with the two existing right lanes of the I-295 Northbound mainline remaining open. Truck traffic will no longer be directed to the left lane of I-295 Northbound, and Exit 10 will be open to all traffic.

As with all construction activity, these modifications are weather dependent and subject to change.
