As Rain Continues, Clear Those Storm Drains

The executive director of the state Emergency Management Agency calls on residents to ensure proper drainage in their neighborhoods.

Low-lying areas in Johnston are in danger of flooding from today's rains, and the Rhode Island Emergency Management Agency has issued a request for residents to keep neighborhood storm drains clear to lessen the impact.

The rain follows a morning snowfall of about two inches in Johnston; up to an inch of rain is expected this afternoon into tonight.

J. David Smith, executive director of the RI EMA, issued a statement this morning that read: "If the heavy rain can't drain properly, flooding conditions may occur."
