UPDATE: Victim ID'd In Murder Case, Family Issues Statement

Johnston Police plan to charge Donald K. Greenslit with domestic murder and other felony charges, Deputy Chief David DeCesare announced.

In a statement released just before 1 p.m. today, Deputy Chief David DeCesare identified the victim in an apparent Jan. 22 murder as Stacie M. Dorego, 39, the girlfriend of Donald K. Greenslit, 52, who has reportedly admitted to killing her and trying to burn her remains in their Pershing Road home.

DeCesare noted that Dorego was also the mother of the two young children, ages 5 and 3, who were removed from the home on Sunday night and brought to Hasbro Children's Hospital for treatment for smoke inhalation.

Steven Melaragno, a friend of the Dorego family, sent a brief news release to members of the press:

"We cannot possibly explain the depth of our grief over this tragic loss and the unfathomable crime associated with her death. Our family is focusing on the health and well-being of her beautiful children. We ask that the media respect our privacy and theirs and appreciate the potentially harmful impact that detailed news coverage is having on all the children in this family," Melaragno wrote.

DeCesare also confirmed the charges that the department plans to bring against Greenslit during his arraignment, scheduled for 2 p.m. today:
