Update: Plea Deal In Animal Cruelty Case

The suspect in a March 8 animal cruelty case was sentenced to six months' probation and restricted from having pets for one year during a court hearing on June 10, Johnston Police Deputy Chief David DeCesare said.

Carol Salgado, of 18 Scituate Ave., pleaded no contest in Third District Court to one charge of cruelty to anumals stemming from a March 8 investigaton by the Johnston police, who found two pit bulls in what they described as filthy conditions.

One of the dogs had to be euthanized, and the other was taken to a nearby animal hospital for treatment.

As part of the court decision, six other charges were dropped. Salgado was also ordered to pay $350 to the state's Victims Crime Indemnity Fund and $467.80 in restitution.
