Three More Arrested After Samurai Sword Attack in Johnston

Johnston Police reported the arrests of a Johnston man and woman, and a Cranston man following the Aug. 4 disturbance on Angell Street.

Two men at the scene of an Aug. 4 disturbance in Johnston have been charged for their roles in the fight that resulted in a sword attack, reported.

Officers charged Timothy Little, 24, of 32 Angell St., and Ronald Giorgio, 22, of Cranston, with disorderly conduct after witnesses told police they had seen Little and Giorgio hitting David Teague, the victim of the sword attack.

Police also arrested Erica Quarto, 30, of 30 Angell St., on one count of obstruction for claiming she had slashed Teague's left arm with a katana sword before identifying Michael Gomes, 24, as the assailant, according to police reports.

Gomes appeared in court on Friday for arraignment on a felony charge of assault with a dangerous weapon. No information on the hearing had been posted on the state court website by presstime.

Teague said he because a slur was used. Police, however, said there is not enough evidence to charge Gomes with a hate crime.

Court records show that in the past, Gomes has been convicted of, or pleaded no contest to, charges of driving under the influence, breaking and entering, assault, and larceny.
