Driver Apparently Used Wrong Pedal Before Crash

The driver of an SUV that drove into a local storefront told police she didn't clearly remember what happened.

reported that the driver of a blue Jeep SUV that on Atwood Avenue said she didn't clearly remember how the accident happened.

Cheryl Cabral, of 114 Federal Way, was not injured in the accident just before 1 p.m. on Oct. 26, where her vehicle collided with the window and front wall of at 1503 Atwood Ave., the Town Hall Plaza.

According to the report filed by Ptlm. David Slinko Jr., the store was empty when Cabral entered the parking lot and attempted to park the SUV.

Following the accident, Cabral was transported to Rhode Island Hospital for evaluation, and was later released.

In a follow-up report, Lt. Joseph Razza wrote that he contacted Cabral the next day about the accident, and learned that she had not been hurt in the collision.

Cabral reportedly told Razza that "she may have depressed the accellerator rather than the brake" before the SUV hit the store and that "she could not recall or be 100 percent positive as to what she did."

Slinko reported that he checked the SUV's brakes " and found [them] to be in working order."

Johnston Building Inspector Ben Nascenzi cleared the building to open, and by Oct. 28, plywood covered the hole in the window left by the accident.
