Report: Johnston Man Ran Fraud Scheme From Prison

Bruce Fields, 34, pleaded guilty to falsely billing Massachusetts Medicaid, according to a television report.

CBS3 in Springfield, MA, reported this week that a Johnston man was sentenced to three years in prison on Sept. 6 after he pleaded guilty to defrauding the Massachusetts Medicaid program.

Bruce Fields, 34, billed more than $100,000 to the state medical program for services he claimed to have provided between 2004 and 2008 — when he was in prison in Massachusetts and Rhode Island, the television station reported.

In a press release, Massachusetts Atty. Gen. Martha Coakley said: “This defendant brazenly cheated the system and defrauded taxpayer dollars, billing for health care services he did not perform. We are pleased that the courts agree these crimes should be punished significantly, and we will continue to aggressively protect taxpayer funds.”
