Police Searching for Bank Robber

Cranston Police are looking for a bank robber who stole an undetermined amount of cash from the Washington Trust on Oaklawn Avenue yesterday afternoon.

Cranston Police Capt. Sean Carmody said the man robbed the bank at around 4:08 p.m. after handing a teller a threatening note "while conspicuously displaying the butt end of what appeared to be a firearm."

The older white moustached man, who stands between six-feet, two inches and six-feet, four inches tall, was wearing a green knit hat, glasses, blue jeans and a grey sweatshirt. After loading the cash into an attache case he brought with him, the suspect fled on foot towards Miller's Crossing. It is unclear if he got into a car after running away.

Members of the Cranston Police Department's Detective Division interviewed bank employees and potential witnesses shortly after the robbery was reported. The department's Bureau of Criminal Identification collected some evidence from the scene and is in the process of reviewing it.
