Police Report Two Assaults On Same Night

Two residents of The Ledges apartments off Old Pocasset Road face assault charges after their arrests in separate incidents on Feb. 20.

arrested two residents of The Ledges apartments, located on Federal Way, on a variety of charges following separate incidents in the early morning hours of Feb. 20.

Ptlm. Derek Palazzo reported that he and three other officers responded to 124 Federal Way at about 3:30 a.m. for reports of a disturbance.

According to police reports, officers found "a disheveled and out-of-breath female," later identified as Dawn Juszczyszyn, 35, who told the officers that "everything was fine."

Palazzo reported that he "could see behind her that the apartment was in complete disarray" and spoke with three juveniles who were also there.

According to one of the two male juveniles, Juszczyszyn had been "acting strange and appeared drunk" when the two entered the apartment at about 12:30 a.m. Juszczyszyn also "began acting violent and swearing," so the two boys left the apartment, Palazzo reported.

When the two boys returned, they were sitting on the couch with a female juvenile watching TV when Juszczyszyn reportedly "began attacking" the girl "for no apparent reason," according to Palazzo's report.

The male told police that he had to pull Juszczyszyn off the girl, and that Juszczyszyn went to the kitchen and returned with a knife in her hand.

Palazzo reported that the male then told him the three juveniles went into a bedroom, before the male witness left the room "to check on the well-being" of Juszczyszyn.

According to Palazzo's report, the male got into a struggle with Juszczyszyn and suffered a cut to his forearm from the knife Juszczyszyn was carrying.

All three juveniles completed written statements that were consistent with the reporting male's account.

Police charged Juszczyszyn with a misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct and two counts of simple assault. Juszczyszyn appeared for arraignment later that day in Third District Court, Warwick, and was released on personal recognizance until a scheduled March 9 pre-trial hearing.

Less than a half-hour later, another team of Johnston officers responded to 110 Federal Way for a domestic disturbance call.

Ptlm. Jared DeAngelis reported that officers found Monica Ramirez on the floor of the apartment "in need of urgent medical care due to a severe laceration to her right leg."

Officers arrested Jorge Delgado, Ramirez's son-in-law, after learning that Delgado had allegedly struck his wife in the face following an argument, and that when Ramirez tried to intervene, Delgado allegedly shoved Ramirez into a glass dining room table, "causing the table to break and shatter," DeAngelis reported.

Ramirez suffered the leg injury after apparently being "severely cut by one or more glass shards" from the table. Delgado's wife then went outside the apartment and called nearby officers for help.

Johnston Fire personnel also responded to the scene to assist Ramirez.

Delgado "appeared to be intoxicated," and was "unable to stand on his own and was consistently slurring his words," DeAngelis wrote in his report.

Police charged Delgado with one misdemeanor count of domestic simple assault and two counts of domestic disorderly conduct. Delgado was arraigned on Feb. 21 in Third District Court, and was released on personal recognizance until a scheduled March 9 hearing. No-contact orders were also issued.
