Police Log: Sept. 24 to Sept. 27

This is a summary of reports provided to JohnstonPatch by the Johnston Police Department for Sept. 24 to Sept. 27. It does not indicate a conviction.

Various domestic charges:

arrested Raymond S. Baccaire, 38, of 349 Sunset Ave., North Providence, on charges of domestic simple assault/battery, third offense; domestic disorderly conduct; domestic vandalism/malicious injury to property; violation of a no contact order, driving without the consent of the owner; high speed pursuit, second offense; failure to appear in court.

Lt. Frank Levesque heard from an informant that Baccaire was staying with his ex-wife in Providence, according to police reports. Johnston Police conducted a surveillance of the apartment to confirm the information, according to Levesque’s report.

On Sept. 26, Levesque responded to the apartment along with Sgt. Michael Babbitt, and Ptlmn. Matthew Leveillee, Joseph Salvadore, and Kevin Brady and officers from the Providence Police Department around 11:20 p.m.

Several officers secured the outside perimeter as Salvadore knocked on the door. The female inside the apartment tried to open the door, and Salvadore could hear a struggle taking place inside the apartment. The woman allegedly said, “Ray, stop pulling me. Just open the [expletive] door,” according to Salvadore’s report. Salvadore ordered the door be opened when he heard the woman allegedly yell “help.”

The officers forced their way into the apartment to find Baccaire and his ex-wife closed in the bathroom. After opening the bathroom door, the officers arrested Baccaire.

Baccaire was arraigned on Sept. 27 in Third District Court, where suretay bail was set at $5,000 surety bail for the charge of eluding police and $5,000 surety bail for the five other charges. He was then held without bail as a district court violator and later presented as a superior court violator.

Domestic Felony Assault:

Johnston Police arrested Brandon Dionne, 25, of 42 Fairmont Ave., Johnston, on a charge of domestic felony assault and domestic disorderly conduct on Sept. 27.

Lt. Richard Norato, Sgt. Dennis Peacock, and Ptlmn. Edward Gonzalez, Adam Catamero, and Derrick Palazzo responded to a call of a domestic disturbance involving a possibly armed male at Dionne's address.

Dionne was sitting on the front steps when the officers arrived, according to the police report. Palazzo ordered Dionne to put his hands on his head and then proceeded to search him for weapons. Dionne was not carrying a weapon, Palazzo reported.

The victim, who identified herself as Dionne's fiancee, reportedly told Palazzo that the relationship has been rocky, and that they had been arguing about her coming home so late from work.

According to the victim, Dionne flipped over the kitchen table and broke a chair, and later retrieved a semi-automatic pistol from the bedroom and held it to his head, threatening to kill himself.

The victim told police that she grabbed for the gun in an attempt to stop Dionne. Dionne allegedly shoved her to the ground and then pressed the gun to her stomach as she stood up. The victim sated Dionne said: “Why won’t you let me kill myself?” according to the report.

After the victim called 911, Dionne threw the gun behind the sofa and left the apartment, according to Palazzo’s report.

Police confiscated an unloaded semi-automatic pistol, a loaded black .9 mm Beretta, a camouflaged magnum rifle, a camouflaged bow and arrow, bullets, gun powder, and boxes containing .223 rounds with six magazines.

Dionne was arraigned at Third District Court on Sept. 27, where surety bail was set at $2,000. He was ordered to have no further contact with the victim, and to surrender all remaining firearms and weapons to the Johnston Police Department.
