Police Log: Sept. 20 to Sept. 23

This is a summary of reports provided to JohnstonPatch by the Johnston Police Department and found on the RI State Police website for Sept. 20 to Sept. 23. It does not indicate a conviction.

High-speed chase suspect arrested:

Johnston Police arrested Michael H. Evans, 43, of 250 Old Baptist Road, North Kingstown, at his home on Sept. 21, after he reportedly admitted to being the driver involved in a .

After Dets. Christopher DeCesare and James Brady arrived at Evans's home, they read Evans his rights and asked him if he was driving on Hartford Avenue on Sept. 4.

Evans allegedly told the detectives he was fighting with his girlfriend the night before, and that the incident was on his mind as he drove on Hartford Avenue, according to the police report.

According to the police report filed after his arrest, Evans said he was unaware of how fast he was driving, but added he knew the officers were trying to stop him. He reportedly said he avoided the officers because he was trying to avoid the ticket and possible loss of license.

The detectives transported Evans back to Johnston Police Headquarters, where he was charged with reckless driving and eluding police. Evans was released with a summons to appear in court on Oct. 5.

Evans is also a suspect in a high-speed chase in North Kingstown dating from May, according to the Johnston police report filed after the Sept. 4 chase.

Arrest warrant:

Rhode Island State Troopers arrested Craig J. Kelly Jr., 27, of 48 Golden View Road, Johnston on a parole board warrant, according to
the state police website. Kelly was processed at Wickford State Police Barracks. Officers then brought Kelly to the Adult Correctional Institutions Intake Center in Cranston.
