Police Log: Oct. 18 to 21

This is a summary of reports provided to JohnstonPatch by the Johnston Police Department for Oct. 18 to 21. Where an arrest is reported, it does not indicate a conviction.

Deer hit on Plainfield Street:

On Oct. 18, Jason Loyd went to the to report an accident that occurred earlier that day. Loyd stated that at approximately 5:45 a.m., he was traveling east on Plainfield Street when two deer ran in front of his pick-up truck. Loyd told police that he tried to avoid hitting the deer, but his truck struck one of the deer, which ran into the woods and could not be located. Loyd's pick up truck sustained damage to the front end and bumper area.

Johnston Police responded to a report of a breaking and entering on Oct. 18 at about 5 p.m. at 60 Greenville Ave., Apt. #2. Anthony Landi, the property owner, told police that he was planning to show the apartment on that day, when he found what looked like a forced entry into the apartment.

Landi told Ptlm. Joseph Salvadore that he believed the suspects had stolen the copper piping from the baseboards in the apartment. Neighbors did not recall any suspicious activity or persons in the area at the time the crime was committed. Police are still investigating the case, and no suspects have been found.

A separate breaking and entering was reported on Oct. 19 by Benny and Maria Riccio, of 29 School St. Benny Riccio told Ptlm. Luca Lancelotti that the breezeway door was open when he and his wife got home from visiting his mother in the hospital. When he walked into the home further, Riccio said, he discovered the kitchen and bedroom ransacked and called the police. Lancelotti reported that he found a broken window next to the breezeway door which could have allowed suspect(s) to unlock the door and enter the home. Neighbors in the area were questioned to see if any noticed suspicious persons in the area, but none was reported.
