Police Log: Nov. 11 to Nov. 13

This is a summary of reports provided to JohnstonPatch by the Johnston Police Department for Nov.11 to Nov. 13. Where an arrest is reported, it does not indicate a conviction.

Keying Cars

arrested Victoria Vanbever, 18, of 455 George Waterman Road, Johnston, on a charge of domestic – vandalism/malicious injury to property and vandalism/malicious injury to property. Ptlm. Mario Mennella Jr. arrived at 22 Moreland St. around 3 a.m. on Nov. 11 for a report of vandalism. The victim told Mennella his ex-girlfriend, Vanbever, arrived at his apartment and began banging on the door around 2:30 a.m., according to the police report. Vanbever allegedly demanded the victim come out and talk to her. The victim stayed in his apartment with his current girlfriend. When Vanbever left she allegedly keyed the side of both of their vehicles. The victim and his girlfriend allegedly watched Vanbever vandalize the vehicles, according to the police report. Mennella stated in his report both the vehicles were “newly scratched/keyed” from the front bumper to the rear tail lights.

Ptlmn. Adam Catamero and Jeffrey Cicchitelli arrested Vanbever at her home address. Catamero stated in his report Vanbever allegedly admitted she was at her ex-boyfriend’s residence but did not admit to vandalizing the vehicles. Vanbever was arraigned and released on a $1,000 personal recognizance with a district court date of Nov. 23.

Threatening phone calls

Johnston Police arrested Robert P. Grenier, 46, of 14 Kirby Land, North Smithfield, on a charge of domestic – disorderly conduct and domestic – crank or obscene phone calls.  The victim arrived at Johnston Police Headquarters around 3 p.m. on Nov. 11 to file a report concerning threatening and harassing phone calls. The victim told Ptlm. John De Angelis her boyfriend, Grenier, allegedly assaulted her the night before when she was driving him home from Worcester, Mass. The victim stated Grenier allegedly was intoxicated and was upset that she would not let him drive. He allegedly threatened to kill her if she did not stop the car to let him drive, according to the police report. The victim pulled the car over and when Grenier got out she drove off and called 911 to report the incident. North Smithfield Police arrested Grenier for disorderly conduct and told the victim she had to report the assault with the Massachusetts State Police, according to the report.

Grenier allegedly began calling and texting the victim after North Smithfield Police released him. He left the first message at 12:33 a.m. and called seven more times over the next 13 hours, according to the police report. Grenier allegedly left five messages yelling and using profanities stating he was mad at the victim for having him arrested. He allegedly sent a text message reading “you will pay.” The victim told DeAngelis she was afraid of Grenier and he has a history of assaulting her and threatening her.

DeAngelis contacted the Massachusetts State Police and learned charges were pending and they planned on obtaining a warrant on Nov. 14. Johnston Police requested that North Smithfield Police arrest Grenier at his home on charges of domestic – disorderly conduct and domestic- crank/obscene phone calls. North Smithfield Police arrested Grenier at 4:30 p.m. on Nov. 11. He was transported to Johnston Police Headquarters. Grenier was arraigned and bail was set at $5,000 with surety cash bail. He was unable to make bail and was remanded to the ACI with a district court date of Nov. 23. A no contact order was issued.

Violation of Protective Order

Johnston Police arrested Joseph A. Rossi, 22, of 537 Branch Ave., Providence, on a charge of violation of protective order. Rossi’s ex-girlfriend filed a report with the Johnston Police concerning Rossi calling and texting her. Rossi allegedly called the victim and texted her on three separate dates. Three warrants were issued for each date Rossi violated the order. Cranston Police arrested Rossi on Nov. 12. Johnston Ptlmn. David Loffler and Luca Lancellotti took custody of Rossi so that he could be processed in Johsnton. Rossi was arraigned on the three counts of violation of protective order. He was remanded to the ACI as a violator on a July 2011 domestic charge.

Domestic Simple Assault

Johnston Police arrested Oscar Angel, 28, of 93 George Waterman, Johnston, on a charge of domestic – simple assault and domestic – disorderly conduct. Johnston Police Sgt. Megan Boulet, Ptlmn. Adam Catamero and Edward Gonzalez responded to a 911 call for help at 93 George Waterman Road on Nov. 13. The officers arrived at the scene around 12:20 a.m. The victim stated she was arguing with her boyfriend. The argument became heated and Angel allegedly choked her. The victim was able to break free and call 911, according to the police report. Gonzalez stated in his report, “I did observe some minor red markings to her throat.” A witness confirmed the victim’s statement. Angel was arraigned and released on $5,000 personal recognizance and a no contact order was issued. Angel has a court date of Nov. 23.
