Police Log: May 31 To June 2

This is a summary of reports provided to JohnstonPatch by the Johnston Police Department for May 31 to June 2, 2011.

Crash avoids head-on collision:

At 4:04 p.m. on May 31, Patrolman Joseph A. McGinn responded to 900 Central Ave. for a report of a single car-accident that involved a 2000 Ford F-150 and a utility pole.

When McGinn arrived at the scene, the driver, Jason Izzi, told McGinn that he was driving west on Central Avenue when he saw three ATVs heading toward him at a high rate of speed, according to the police report. One of the ATVs was a green dirt bike.

The operator of the dirt bike allegedly was driving with the front wheel off the ground. When the dirt bike operator dropped the front wheel back onto the ground, he/she swerved into Izzi’s lane. Izzi reportedly swerved to avoid a head-on collision with the dirt bike and crashed into the utility pole. The pole was pushed back about one foot and the power lines broke loose, according to McGinn’s report.

Both the air bags in Izzi’s truck deployed and the truck sustained damage to the grill and bumper.

An arrest warrant was issued for Ricci on May 11, when Johnston Det. Josh Heywood received information from the Rhode Island Crime lab identifying a fingerprint that Heywood lifted from Firehouse Hot Dogs at 39 Putnam Ave. following a break-in on April 13.
