Police Log: May 24 To May 27

This is a summary of reports provided to JohnstonPatch by the Johnston Police Department and found on the RI State Police website for May 24 to May 27, 2011.

Car larcenies:

Patrolman Mark A. Vieira and Lt. Thomas Dolan responded to City Auto Sales at 760 Hartford Ave. on May 25 for a report of larceny. A suspect or suspects stole a car stereo/television from one vehicle and tires and rims from two other vehicles, according to the police report. The thieves removed the tires and rims from a 2008 Nissan Altima and a 1997 Acura 2.2CL. Both vehicles were propped up on old spare tires. The stereo/television was stolen from a 2004 Nissan Altima.

Camp basketball court vandalized:

Patrolman Matthew Winsor responded to Camp Massasoit at 87 Shore Drive for a report of vandalism on May 26 at 9:50 a.m. The facilities director told Winsor that the basketball court was damaged, the basketball backboard was broken, and shingles were pulled off the restroom roof. Winsor noted in his report that the backboard was shattered by an unknown object, and that another unknown object caused several drag marks on the court.

Alfred Scivola, 69, of 104 Brown Ave. was arrested by the Las Vegas Metro Police Department on May 6, one of 25 people arrested for alleged illegal gambling activity. Scivola was arrested on charges of racketeer influence and corrupt organizations (RICO) and conspiracy to commit extortion. Officers from the state intelligence unit traveled to Las Vegas to take Scivola into custody. He was arraigned at the Lincoln Barracks and released on $25,000 surety bail.

Providence Grand Jury indictment:

Rhode Island Atty. Gen. Peter Kilmartin announced that the Providence County Grand Jury handed up an indictment on May 27 charging Eurico Aguiar, of 89 Greenvile Ave. #2 with one count of first-degree child molestation following his arrest by Johnston Police. Aguiar is currently being held without bail. He is scheduled to be arraigned in Providence County Superior Court on June 15, 2011.
