Police Log: March 28 to March 31

This is a summary of reports provided to Johnston Patch by the Johnston Police Department for March 28 to March 31, 2011.

TV thief sneaks into apartment:

Patrolman Philip E. Veins responded to 30 Osgood Ave. on Monday, March 28 for a call of a burglary. At about 2:15 p.m., Heidi Decell left the apartment she was staying in with a friend to go to the basement to do laundry. Decell’s friend was at work at the time. When Decell went downstairs she left the door ajar with the dead bolt holding it open, according to the report.

Decell returned to the apartment and discovered that the 46-inch flat screen television was missing from the living room. A neighbor heard someone going up and down the stairs, but they did not look to see who it was, according to the police report. When Veins arrived at the apartment, he stated in his report, he observed the empty wall bracket that had held the television, and that the victim was able to produce the box for the TV. The flat screen is valued at about $1,000.
