Police Log: June 23 to June 26

This is a summary of reports provided to JohnstonPatch by the Johnston Police Department for June 23 to June 26, 2011. It does not indicate a conviction.

K-9 Bono Assists On Search Warrant Arrest:

Patrolman Philip E. Veins and his police K-9 dog, Bono, responded to 13 South Fairview St. around 4 p.m. on June 23 to assist Johnston Police detectives in the execution of a narcotics search warrant.

The detectives secured the home before Viens and Bono entered. Once in the residence, Bono was unleashed and began searching the premises. He began searching the kitchen area but did not detect a scent. Bono made his way to the first bedroom and “immediately indicated on a basket of clothing,” according to Viens’ report.

The officers located two large plastic bags of marijuana and cashin the first location before Bono moved on to the closet area in the room, where he picked up a scent on a shoe in the closet. A plastic bag containing pills was found inside the shoe.

Bono searched several other rooms and then began barking and jumping near a cinderblock wall in the basement. Sgt. Seth Crosby checked the top of the wall and found tinfoil balls containing cocaine, according to the police report.

The officers confiscated more than $6,000 in cash, marijuana valued at over $2,000, 21 Hydrocodone tablets, 29 Hydroxine pills, clonazepan pills, and marijuana seeds.

Jesse A. Hahn, 24, of 13 South Fairview St., Johnston, was arrested on a charge of possession of a schedule substance and manufacturing/possession/delivery of marijuana greater than 5 kilograms.

Domestic Vandalism Arrest:

Arthur W. Caparrelli, 47, of 2005 Plainfield St., was arrested on June 26 on two charges of domestic disordly conduct and one charge of domestic vandalism/malicious injury to property.

Patrolmen Troy Maddocks and Michael Edwards, along with Lt. Joseph Razza and Sgt. Megan Boulet, responded to 2005 Plainfield St. around 11:30 p.m. on June 26. When officers arrived, they found Caparrelli sitting inside eating dinner while yelling and swearing, according to police reports. 

Caparrelli used profanities as he told the officers to get out of his house and off his property. He then began to yell at his wife and daughter using profanities and saying “I hope you [expletive] die.”

Caparrelli’s daughter told the officers that her father came home around 10 p.m. highly intoxicated. She confronted him about being intoxicated and he began to call her names and swear at her, according to Edwards’ report. Caparrelli allegedly threatened to hit his wife and daughter, “so they both fled to the outside of the residence,” Edwards’ report stated.

Caparrelli said he was going to leave but Mrs. Caparrelli and her daughter used their cars to block the driveway to prevent Caparrelli from driving under the influence. Caparrelli continued to yell and allegedly drove his Oldsmobile Bravado into the side of his daughter’s Ford Explorer. Caparrelli allegedly hit the Explorer with the other car several times, and then went back into the home. Caparelli was arrested but was “unable to be processed due to his intoxicated and belligerent state,” according to Edwards’ report. He was arraigned on June 27 in 3rd District Court. Surety bail was set and a no-contact order was issued.
