Police Log: Feb. 1 to 2

This is a summary of reports provided to JohnstonPatch by the Johnston Police Department for Feb. 1 and 2. Where an arrest is reported, it does not indicate a conviction.

DUI Charge Following Accident:

charged George E. Camera, 59, of 1 Cherry Hill Road, with one count of DUI, first offense on Feb. 1 after his car reportedly hit the side of the Walgreen's Pharmacy at 1583 Atwood Ave.

Ptlm. Matthew Leveillee wrote in his report that he and two other officers responded to the scene with fire and rescue personnel at about 7:45 p.m. and met with the store owner, Lester Miller.

Miller told the officers that he had heard a loud noise from outside the building "which sounded to him like a vehicle had hit the building," Leveillee reported.

The driver of the car, a 2003 Subaru, got out of the car and went inside the store, where the officers found him.

Leveillee reported that Camera "was unsteady on his feet," and smelled of alcohol. Camera also "could not recall being involved in the accident," Leveillee wrote.

Ptlm. Troy Maddocks reported that he saw skid marks on the sidewalk leading to the damaged store wall, and found "small pieces of stone lodged into the vehicle's front bumper."

Camera's car was towed from the scene, Maddocks reported.

According to police reports, Camera said he would be unable to perform some of the sobriety tests requested by officers because of a physical condition, and told Leveillee that he was taking "several prescription medications," which he could not identify.

After officers took him to the police department, Leveillee reported, Camera declined the use of a phone and took two Breathalyzer tests, which showed a .117 and .119 blood-alcohol level, respectively.

Camera was taken by rescue to Our Lady of Fatima Hospital for treatment and issued a citation to appear in Third District Court for a scheduled Feb. 15 hearing.

Shoplifting Suspect Arrested:

Johnston Police arrested Brian K. Dockray, 43, of Warwick, on Feb. 2 after he allegedly tried to return a power tool he had just stolen to The Home Depot store.

Ptlm. John DeAngelis reported that at about 1 p.m., he and two other officers went to the store to investigate a shoplifting call.

The store's loss prevention investigator, Jeremy Nerbonne, told the officers Dockray took a Milwaukee sawzall from one of the store's shelves and went to the customer service counter to try and return the saw, valued at about $150, for a refund.

After the cashier refused to complete the transaction, Dockray reportedly left the store. Nerbonne told officers that he then followed Dockray outside and asked him to return to the store.

Nerbonne said he then brought Dockray back into the store and called police, DeAngelis reported.

Police charged Dockray with felony shoplifting and habitual shoplifting, and found through a check of his criminal record that he was on probation for prior shoplifting convictions.

A check of unofficial court records posted online found 210 separate entries for Dockray under his name and four other aliases.

Dockray was arraigned in Third District Court, Warwick, on Feb. 2 and ordered held without bail until a pre-arraignment hearing scheduled for April 2.
