Police Log: Dec. 8 to Dec. 11

This is a summary of reports provided to JohnstonPatch by the Johnston Police Department for Dec.8 to Dec. 11. Where an arrest is reported, it does not indicate a conviction.

Simple Assault at Stop & Shop:

arrested Alaina Bonafiglia, 26, of 56 Walnut St., Johnston, on a charge of simple assault and battery. Sgt. Dennis Peacock and Ptlm. Mario Mennella Jr. responded to a call of an assault that took place at Stop & Shop on Dec. 1 around 5:30 p.m. The victim told Mennella that she was shopping in the store when she saw Bonafiglia with family members in the store. The victim and Bonafiglia “have had issues in the past,” according to Mennella’s report. The victim thought Bonafiglia was following her so she wanted to leave before something happened. The victim paid for her items, and Bonafiglia reportedly approached her as she left the store. Bonafiglia allegedly yelled obscenities at the victim and then struck her in the face with a closed fist, according to the report.

Bonafiglia’s mother allegedly told Mennella the victim pushed Bonafiglia first and her daughter was defending herself. Bonafiglia allegedly left the scene before the police arrived. A witness and video surveillance confirmed the report made by the victim. Bonafiglia turned herself in at police headquarters on Dec. 8. She was charged and released with a court date of Dec. 14.
