This is a summary of reports provided to JohnstonPatch by the Johnston Police Department for December 17 through December 21.

Road Rage

Patrolman Michael Protano responded to an alleged incident of road rage at the intersection of Susan and Dean avenue around 4 p.m. on Dec. 17. He said he arrived at the intersection to find Andrew Pirie's vehicle parked in front of the stop sign on Susan Avenue. Pirie told Protano he was stopped at the intersection and a green pickup truck pulled up behind him. The driver was signaling Pirie. The man then exited his truck and approached Pirie's vehicle and began swearing at him, according to reports. Pirie said the man then shattered his driver's side window.

Rasim Asad witnessed the incident. He reported seeing a white male between the ages of 30 and 40 years old, with reddish/brown hair wearing a red, plaid shirt exit a green pickup truck and approach Pirie's vehicle. He said the unidentified driver struck Pirie's rear window with his hand. The man then got into his truck and took a left onto Dean Avenue, heading toward Smithfield.

Patrolman Luca A. Lancellotti Jr. responded to a report of a possible drunk driver on Plainfield Street on Dec. 17 at 9:43 p.m. Lancellotti reported observing a red Chevrolet Blazer driving west on Plainfield Street. He said the Blazer crossed over the double yellow line and then swerved back into westbound lane.

Lancellotti said he pulled the vehicle over and spoke with the driver, Maria A. Alonzo, 42, of Providence. Alonzo's two children, ages 7 and 10, were passengers in the car. Lancellotti said he smelled a strong odor of alcohol emanating from Alonzo's breath. He asked Alonzo if she had been drinking and she said had "a couple of beers" at her daughter's house.

Alonzo agreed to take a field sobriety test. Lancellotti said he observed that Alonzo was unsteady and used the Blazer for balance when she exited the car. Alonzo failed to adhere to proper instructions for the walk-and-turn test and didn't touch her heel to toe throughout the test. Alonzo also failed the one-leg stand test by placing her foot down three times because she could not keep her balance, according to Lancellotti's report.

Alonzo was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. The vehicle was registered to her 21-year-old daughter. Her daughter arrived at the scene to pick up the vehicle. Alonzo gave permission for the children to be released to her daughter. Alonzo refused to take a chemical test. She was arrested before for D.U.I. on June 17, 2008.

Domestic Assault

Patrolman Joseph M. Scichilone Jr. responded to a domestic disturbance with Sgt. Christopher DeCesare and Officers Palazzo, Gaousie and Lemieux on Dec. 19. Scichilone reported meeting Chelsea A. Sherman, 25, of Fall River, MA, in front of the Plainfield Street residence when he arrived on scene at 12:48 a.m. Sherman told Scichilone that she just caught her ex-boyfriend with another woman at his house. Sherman said she was intimate with her ex-boyfriend two days prior.

"She stated that she became enraged and kicked in his front door and an altercation occurred inside the apartment," according to Scichilone's report. Sherman allegedly entered the apartment screaming and struck her ex-boyfirend twice in the face, causing redness and swelling under his right eye.

The ex-boyfriend, his current girlfriend and Sherman struggled and fell to the floor, according to reports. The ex-boyfriend's dog then bit Sherman behind her right knee. Sherman said that the dog was not ordered to attack.

Sherman was charged with domestic breaking and entering, domestic assault and domestic disorderly conduct. She was taken by rescue to Fatima Hospital for her injuries and later arraigned on the three charges. She was released on $10,000 personal recognizance.

Breaking and Entering

Patrolman David Loffler responded with Sgt. LeDuc and Patrolman Viens to a call reporting a breaking and entering on Dec. 20. The tenant of the second floor apartment at 35 Hillside Ave. said she heard a loud bang from downstairs. She said she went to check on the noise and noticed the door to the first floor apartment was ajar. The tenant opened the door and saw splinters of wood strewn about the floor.

She entered the apartment and asked if anyone was there. A white male about 5' 10"  with short, dark hair wearing a dark blue hooded sweatshirt entered the living room area from the main bedroom. He said someone had broken into the apartment and he was there to fix the door. The tenant asked the man if he knew the landlord and he said, "Call the landlord, the police are on the way."

The tenant went back to her apartment and called the police.  While on the phone she saw the man get into a dark hatchback and back down Hillside Avenue toward Traver Avenue.
