Police Log: Dec. 12 to Dec. 13

This is a summary of reports provided to JohnstonPatch by the Johnston Police Department for Dec.12 to Dec. 13. Where an arrest is reported, it does not indicate a conviction.

Domestic Vandalism Arrest:

arrested Eric A. Stabile, 60, of 1 Flat St., Cumberland, on two charges of domestic vandalism/malicious injury to property on Dec. 12. The Johnston Police Department received a call reporting vandalism at 36 Spring Drive on Nov. 11 around noontime.

Ptlm. John DeAngelis responded to the scene and spoke with the victim, who stated that a person poured sand or dirt into the gas tanks of both of his vehicles while they were parked in the driveway. He said the car alarm woke him at around 2 a.m. that morning. He looked out and didn’t see anything so he deactivated the alarm, according to DeAngelis’ report. The victim noticed the sand or dirt when he tried to fill one of the vehicles with gas. It appeared that the door covering the gas tank had been pried open. The victim returned home and checked the other vehicle, a 2010 Nissan, and it had the same residue near the gas cap.

Johnston Police arrested Heather M. Cruz, 35, of 304 Arthur’s Way, Burriville, on a charge of vandalism/malicious injury to property and obstructing an officer in the execution of duty on Dec. 12.

Ptlm. David Loffler responded to a complaint of vandalism at 128 Pine Hill Ave. on July 14. The victim stated Cruz was evicted from the second floor apartment for non-payment and she had until July 15 to remove all her belongings. Cruz was in and out of the apartment on July 14, according to the victim. The victim told Loffler she heard things being moved around and banging coming from the second floor apartment and the basement areas.

After Cruz left, the victim checked the basement and found the washers and dryers covered in blue and red paint and bleach covering her clothing, which was still in the washing machine. The victim then called the police department.

Loffler went with the victim to the second floor apartment and described apartment as being in “deplorable condition,” according his report. Red paint was thrown on all the walls and the hardwood floors in the apartment. The bathroom mirror, sink, and toilet were covered in blue spray paint and the victim’s car had a line of blue spray paint running along the side panels, according to the police reports.

Det. Joshua Heywood seized two bleach bottles, a one-gallon can of red paint, and a soda bottle with red fingerprints on it. The fingerprints lifted were a match to Cruz.

The arrest warrant for Cruz was issued after she did not respond to phone calls made by Det. Christopher DeCesare, according to police reports, leading to her arrest on Dec. 12.

Deer runs into Jeep:

A deer ran into the passenger side of a Jeep Cherokee on Dec. 13 around 4:30 p.m. The driver stated she was driving west on Winsor Avenue when a large deer suddenly ran out from the side of the road. The deer struck the passenger side of the Cherokee and then continued across the road into the woods. The Jeep sustained “heavy front-end damage” and scratches to the hood, according to Ptlm. Michael Protano’s report. Protano stated in the report there was no blood on the vehicle and the deer was no longer in the area.

Other arrests:

Johnston Police arrested Steven R. Calise, 49, of 5 Alcazar Ave., Johnston, on a charge of possession of a heroin and possession of crack cocaine on Dec. 13.
