This is a summary of reports provided to JohnstonPatch by the Johnston Police Department for August 26 to August 30. It does not indicate a conviction.

Two arrested for drug possession:

arrested two Johnston men on possession of marijuana charges following a vehicle stop. Sgt. Seth Crosby stopped a car on Spring Hill Drive around 9:20 p.m. on Aug. 26. The passenger in the back seat, identified as Steven A. Derosa, appeared to stuff something in the armrest as Crosby approached the car, according to the police report.

Crosby asked Derosa to get out of the car and asked Derosa what he was doing. Derosa allegedly could not give a valid explanation for his actions. Crosby located a green leafy substance in a plastic baggy when he searched the armrest.

Crosby also asked the driver, identified as Michael Saul, to get out of the car. When Saul complied with Crosby's request, a plastic baggie fell to the ground. Saul allegedly told Crosby he swallowed the marijuana when he noticed Crosby pull behind him in the police cruiser.

Police charged Derosa, 20, of 1143.5 Hartford Ave., and Saul, 20, of 29 Spring Hill Drive, on one count each of possession of marijuana, first offense, and one count each of obstructing an officer.  Both were processed and released with a district court summons.

Police arrested Karissa Harrison, 19, of 27 Spring St., on a charge of conspiracy to commit larceny, vandalism/malicious injury to property, disorderly conduct, and larceny under $500.

On Aug. 30, Harrison was with her boyfriend, Jared Santiago, when he allegedly took a package out of a mailbox at 21 Spring St., according to the police report. The victim told Ptlm. Philip Viens that he saw a male and female near his mailbox. The victim stated he saw Santiago take an envelope from his mailbox, according to Viens’ report. The victim approached the couple as they walked up Spring Street and asked for the package they removed from his mailbox. The couple allegedly denied taking the package.

The victim told Viens he believed the package was a replacement computer screen he ordered, according to the police report.

Ptlm. Jared DeAngelis interviewed Harrison, and she reportedly denied having knowledge of the larceny. She then allegedly stated she was walking with her boyfriend, Santiago, and he “may have” taken the package, according to DeAngelis’ report.

She reportedly told DeAngelis she didn’t “know where the [expletive] it is” referring to the package. Harrison also allegedly gave conflicting reports as to what Santiago was wearing.

Harrison was arrested for conspiracy to commit larceny and began to scream “profanity-laden statements” after she was handcuffed, according to the police report. While in the police cruiser, Harrison allegedly kicked the plexiglass divider, kicked the roof of the car, and spat on the plexiglass divider. Harrison was arraigned at police headquarters and released on $1,000 personal recognizance.
