Police Log: April 8 to April 11

This is a summary of reports provided to Johnston Patch by the Johnston Police Department, and found on the Rhode Island State Police website, for April 8 to April 11, 2011.

Two arrested after eluding police:

Patrolman Adam Catamero was on patrol in the area of 800 Central Ave. early Sunday morning when a silver Hyundai was traveling toward him over the center line at a high rate of speed. Catamero turned on the patrol car’s overhead lights and attempted to stop the Hyundai.

The driver of the Hyundai increased his speed and turned off the car’s headlights, according to Catamero’s report. Catamero followed the 2000 Sonata as it suddenly turned onto Jasmine Lane. Catamero estimated he was several hundred feet behind the Hyundai when the driver made the turn. When Catamero turned onto Jasmine Lane he lost sight of the car and radioed for assistance from additional police units.

Catamero located the Sonata parked in the driveway of 18 Caraway Dr. with no occupants in the car. Catamero blocked the Hyundai by parking his police cruiser behind it and then began to search the area on foot.

As Catamero entered the backyard of 18 Caraway Dr., he saw a white man wearing a black hooded sweatshirt running through the yard toward Jasmine Lane. “I identified myself as a police officer and commanded the suspect to stop. The male party continued to run,” according to Catamero’s report. Catamero caught the suspect, Anthony Brunetti, in the driveway of 11 Taragon Drive.

Sgt. Brian LeClair and Patrolman Lemieux arrived at 11 Taragon Dr., and Catamero saw a second vehicle turn onto Tarragon Drive heading toward Beechnut Drive. LeClair, Lemieux, and Catamero followed the car with their cruisers' overhead lights on until it stopped at 151 Bishop Hill Rd. Paul Cerbo Jr. was operating the car when it was pulled over. He said he did not want to stop for the officer because the car was not registered and his friend, Brunetti, had a warrant. Cerbo allegedly drove over the grass to get the car out of the driveway at 18 Caraway Drive.

Police charged Paul R. Cerbo Jr., 34, of 20 Birchwood Dr., with reckless driving and eluding a law enforcement officer with a motor vehicle. Anthony Brunetti, 45, of 7 Moswansicut Drive, Johnston, was arrested on a bench warrant.

Domestic assault:

Christina M. Rossi, 29, of 15 South Fairview St., Johnston, was arrested on a charge of domestic – simple assault/battery and disorderly conduct Sunday, Arpil 10. Rossi allegedly struck her mother’s boyfriend in the face after accusing him of cheating on her mother. The boyfriend's daughter called 911. Johnston Police Patrolmen Luca A. Lancellotii Jr. and Protano were speaking with the boyfriend outside when Rossi started yelling out the front door. The officers told her to calm down and lower her voice but Rossi continued to yell and use profanities, according to the police report. Rossi was then placed under arrest. She was arraigned and released on $1,000 personal recognizance.
