Police Log: April 5 to April 7

This is a summary of reports provided to Johnston Patch by the Johnston Police Department for April 5 to April 7, 2011.

Disorderly conduct by drummer:

Patrolman Adam M. Parkinson, Lt. Razza, Sgt. Alverson, and Patrolman McGinn responded to 5 Joy St. on Thursday, April 7 for a disturbance between neighbors. The verbal confrontation between John F. Czerwien and his neighbor began around 7:30 p.m. when the two entered the multi-family home at the same time. Czerwien allegedly used sexually explicit terms to refer to the neighbor, according to Parkinson’s report. Czerwien also gave his neighbor intimidating looks before he went upstairs to his apartment and began to play his music loudly, according to the report.

Czerwien allegedly continued the behavior when another woman came to visit Czerwien’s neighbor. When the two women were outside he allegedly continued to yell derogatory comments at his nieghbor from his second floor window. He also attempted to spit in her direction but did not hit her with the saliva, according to the police report.

The officers went to Czerwien’s apartment to discuss the matter with him. Parkinson stated in his report that he could detect “an overwhelming odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating off his breath.” There were beer cans scattered in the kitchen area and Czerwien allegedly told Parkinson that he had been drinking and playing his drums, according to the report. Czerwien denied getting into a verbal altercation with his neighbor or trying to spit on her.

Czerwien, 39, of 5 Joy St., Johnston, was arrested on a charge of simple assault or battery (bodily fluid) and disorderly conduct. Czerwien was arraigned, surety bail was set and a no-contact order was issued.
