Police Beat: You Have to Return a U-Haul?

The following arrest and incident reports were provided by Johnston Police. They do not indicate a conviction.

U-HAUL NOT RETURNED
Johnston Police tracked down a missing U-Haul that was never returned to Carrara’s Auto Clinic on Atwood Avenue and charged a former Johnston man who never returned it with obtaining a vehicle with intent to defraud.

According to a police report, Kerry E. Raso, 43, of 19 Lexington Road, North Kingstown, reportedly rented a U-Haul truck on Dec. 15 and was supposed to return it on Dec. 16 but never returned. Carrara’s owner, David Carrara, told police that he tried to contact Raso from Dec. 17 to Jan. 9 via telephone and certified mail with no luck.

Police eventually found the U-Haul truck on Jan. 12 at 32 Audubon St. The truck was parked with the doors unlocked and inside, police found broken glass from a table, an artificial Christmas tree and a plastic bin inside the cargo area.

Raso was charged with obtaining a vehicle with intent to defraud on Feb. 26 after he turned himself in to police. 

WARRANTS
Johnston Police charged Kristen N. Petrarca, 25, of 189 Bingham St., Warwick, with a Superior Court Bench Warrant Feb. 25 after a traffic stop.

Police said Petrarca was wanted for a warrant stemming from a narcotics possession charge out of West Warwick. She was taken into custody without incident.

On Feb. 24, police charged Christine Davis, 32, of 2 Mattie St., Providence, with a warrant Feb. 24 after they stopped by the Bel Air Motor Inn on Hartford Avenue to find her.

Police said Davis answered the door and was taken into custody without incident. She was wanted for failing to appear on a charge of loitering for indecent purposes out of Providence.

Johnston Police charged Eric O. Araujo, 36, of 10 Angell St., North Providence, with a warrant Feb. 23 after an officer saw him kneeling down leaning his head against the wall of the Sky View Motor Inn on Hartford Avenue.

Police said Araujo told police that he was just trying to get some fresh air outside and smoke a cigarette. Araujo was in good health, police said, but he did have a warrant out of Providence Family Court for failing to appear on for non-support.
