Johnston Police Explorers Post #405 held their first annual holiday crafts fair on Dec. 11 at the senior center.

The first annual Johnston Police Explorers Post #405 holiday craft fair took place on Dec. 11 at the to raise funds for a number of different projects planned by the group.

Captain Marc Boisvert, who was recently the recipient of the Gen. James O'Neill Justice Award for Crime Prevention, explained that the money collected from the craft fair will be used on a number of different functions — uniforms for the Explorers, supplies for the yearly Explorers Academy, rubber guns and belts, and preparations for Station Day, when the local Explorers group competes against other teams from around the state.

The idea of the holiday craft fair fundraiser came from police explorer Ryan Best's mother Terry Best, who is a crafter, Boisvert said.

Among the 41 vendors were several from Johnston, Boisvert noted, as well as

Members of the Explorers were also on hand selling mugs and raffle tickets, and collecting toys to be distributed to needy Johnston families this holiday season.

The Explorers' toy and gift card drive continues through Thursday; donations can be dropped off at the senior center, police department, town hall, local schools, and A Custom Car Stereo on Atwood Avenue.
