Several businesses made donations in support of the community event on August 2.

On August 2, the Community Policing, Johnston Police Local 307 and the Johnston Explorers Post 405 held their annual National Night Out at Johnston Memorial Park.

"It's a chance for the community to interact," said Police Chief Richard Tamburini, "and to meet the senior citizens who do not walk on Thursdays with the Johnston police at Memorial Park."

Tamburini explained that the local manors and assisted living facilities transported seniors to the Tuesday night event.
