NBC10: Johnston Man Terms Sword Attack 'Hate Crime'

Johnston Police are investigating David Teague's claim that a man slashed him with a sword because he is bisexual, the television station reported.

 

A Johnston man is claiming he was attacked over the weekend by a sword-wielding assailant because he is bisexual, NBC10 reported today.

David Teague III told the station that the suspect, who was not identified in the online report, "yelled a slur" at him before slashing him with a katana sword.

The television station quoted Maj. Michael Colucci as saying the assault occurred during a disturbance on Angell Street on Saturday night.

Police are investigating whether the assault was a hate crime, Colucci told NBC10.

Teague was not charged in the incident.
