One person suffered injuries following a collision between a car and a motorcycle on May 19. Johnston Police Ptlm. Michael Edwards and Sgt. Michael J. Babbitt responded to the accident scene at the intersection of Hartford and Reservoir avenues around 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.
Luis Lopez, 42, of Danielson, CT, told Edwards he stopped his Harley Davidson at the red light at the intersection. When Lopez began to drive forward after the light turned green, the driver of a Subaru Legacy struck his motorcycle from behind, according to reports. Luis Lopez was uninjured but his passenger, Jennifer Lopez, complained of left leg pain and back pain. Jennifer Lopez was transported to Rhode Island Hospital for treatment, according to the police report.
Babbitt discovered a protective order in Connecticut was filed against Luis Lopez on April 12, 2012. Babbitt could not confirm if the order was still in place because the registry was closed over the weekend. Jennifer Lopez told Babbitt she was in the process of having the order dropped, according to the police report. Lopez was not arrested because the order could not be confirmed. The matter was turned over to the detective division.
